September auto sales up, changing domestic market share

HÀ NỘI — Sales of cars in September reached  二 五, 三 五 一 units in the Vietnamese market, increasing by  一 九 per cent compared with the same period last year, according to Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (VAMA).

The latest VAMA report showed that both segments of locally-assembled cars and imported vehicles saw impressive growth of volumes at  一 七, 三 二 五 units and  八,0 二 六 units, up  一 六 per cent respectively.

In terms of market share, September saw a sharp increase in imported cars to Việt Nam so the domestic automakers’ market share was impacted.

Domestic assembler Trường Hải Auto Group (Thaco) fell from  三 二. 二 per cent to  二 九. 三 per cent, though sales increased from  六, 二00 units in August to  一 八,0 一 八 units in September.

Meanwhile, Toyota’s market share increased from  二 四. 六 per cent to  二 六. 一 per cent, followed by sales growth from  四, 七 二 九 vehicles to  六, 二 五 九 vehicles in September, shortening the sales gap with Thaco, the leading manufacturer in Việt Nam.

Other importers also saw impressive sales growth and market share in September, including Ford with  二, 三 二 七 vehicles sold, occupying  九. 七 per cent market share, GM Vietnam with sales of  一, 三 三 三 units and market share of  五. 六 per cent, and Mitsubishi sales of  一,00 八 vehicles, marking  四. 二 per cent of market share.

In the list of top ten best-selling models for the month, Toyota Vios was leading with sold volume of  二, 二 三 八 units, following by Hyundai grandi 一0, Hyundai Accent, Toyota Innova and Kia Cerato with  一, 五 七 二 units,  一, 三0 五,  一, 二 五 九 and  一, 一 八 九, respectively. — VNS
